What Is My Website Worth? Sale Value vs What a Link Is Worth
Short answer
Two different questions
"What is my website worth?" asks one of two things. What would someone pay for the whole site? Or what is a link from it worth to another site's rankings? A website value calculator answers the first, usually from traffic and figures it assumes about earnings, so each one gives its own number. This report answers the second, with mxverify's BV, and measures how far traffic alone tells you it.
What we measured
Every site mxverify had priced on 23 October 2026: 3,154 sites whose link is worth more than $0, 1,492 of them with a third-party estimate of monthly organic visits above zero, the same estimate each site's report shows. BV 2.8 is what one new followed link from a site is worth to rankings, in dollars. It is not a price, and nothing here estimates what a site would sell for.
The short answer
| What we measured | Figure |
|---|---|
| Sites mxverify has priced | 3,154 |
| … with a traffic estimate above zero | 1,492 |
| Median worth of one link from them | $7.49 |
| Rank correlation of traffic and link worth | 0.76 |
| Median at 100,000+ visits a month | $254 |
| Median with no traffic measured | $3.75 |
Link worth by traffic
| Organic visits a month | Sites | Median worth of a link | Worth $100 or more |
|---|---|---|---|
| No traffic measured | 1,662 | $3.75 | 0% |
| 1 to 99 visits a month | 597 | $9.18 | 1% |
| 100 to 999 | 288 | $16 | 3% |
| 1,000 to 9,999 | 199 | $57 | 22% |
| 10,000 to 99,999 | 149 | $139 | 66% |
| 100,000 or more | 259 | $254 | 84% |
Each step up in traffic multiplies the median worth of a link by 1.7 to 3.6. Every band has its own sites on mxverify's backlink sites list.
Why traffic is not the whole answer
- Traffic is built in. BV takes half of a site's strength from its organic traffic and half from its authority rating, so the two are bound to move together: across the 1,492 sites with traffic measured, the rank correlation is 0.76.
- No traffic measured is common. 1,662 of the 3,154 sites have no traffic estimate above zero; BV counts them as having none, and 83% of them are priced at level C or D. Their median link is worth $3.75.
- Few exceptions. 7 sites with under 100 visits a month are still worth $100 or more a link, on the strength of their authority rating; no site with 10,000+ visits a month is worth under $10.
Same traffic, different kind of link
Among the 149 sites with 10,000 to 99,999 visits a month, the kind of link a site gives still moves what it is worth:
| Kind of link the site gives (level) | Sites | Median worth of a link |
|---|---|---|
| Guest post or listing (B) | 102 | $165 |
| Press release, forum, profile or nofollow (C) | 43 | $49 |
A guest post or listing link keeps half of what an editorial link from the same site would be worth, a press-release, forum, profile or nofollow link a tenth.
How to find what your website is worth
- To sell it, the figures a buyer reads are your earnings and traffic records, not a calculator's estimate. A broker or a marketplace that sells websites values sites on those.
- For the links on it — if you publish guest posts or list products — enter your site in mxverify's free backlink checker. Its report shows the BV score, what each kind of link from it would be worth, and how the figure is worked out.
- To raise what a link from it is worth: grow organic traffic, earn editorial links rather than placed ones, and keep the site off one-owner networks. The methodology shows each factor.
Method and limits
- Priced sites are every site with a report on mxverify whose BV is above $0, as the pricing run last stored it, on 23 October 2026.
- Traffic is a third-party estimate of monthly organic visits, dated on each report; no one outside a site sees its analytics. A site never measured counts as none.
- The correlation is Spearman's rank correlation over the sites with traffic above zero. BV uses traffic as an input, so the correlation is partly by design; the point is how much of the rest the kind of link explains.
- Levels with fewer than 10 sites in the band are left out of the level table.
Key takeaways
- Link worth rises with traffic: a median $254 at 100,000+ organic visits a month, $3.75 with none measured.
- Traffic and link worth have a rank correlation of 0.76 across 1,492 sites; BV uses traffic as an input.
- At 10,000–99,999 visits, a guest post or listing link is worth a median $165, a press-release, forum or profile link $49.
- 1,662 of 3,154 priced sites have no traffic measured; 83% of them are priced at level C or D.
Frequently asked questions
How much is my website worth?
It depends which worth you mean. A sale price is set by earnings and traffic records, which buyers and brokers read. What a link from your site is worth to another site's rankings is its BV, which mxverify's free backlink checker shows.
What does a website value calculator do?
It estimates a sale price, usually from traffic and figures it assumes about earnings. Each calculator assumes its own figures, so each gives its own number. None of them reads your actual earnings.
Does traffic decide what a link from my site is worth?
Largely, not wholly. BV takes half of a site's strength from organic traffic, and across 1,492 sites the rank correlation is 0.76. The kind of link the site gives still moves the figure: at the same traffic, a guest post or listing link is worth about 3 times a press-release or profile link.
How do I check what a link from my website is worth?
Enter the site in mxverify's free backlink checker. The report shows its BV score, what each kind of link from it would be worth, its traffic estimate and how the figure is worked out.

A website audit reviews crawling and indexing, speed, on-page content and links. The links part usually stops at a backlink count. bklink's audits of 4,447 placed links on 3,001 publications found 31% followed, 83% still on the page, and only 11% in an article that ran on one site alone.

A backlink check on 2,721 sites: the median site had 361 websites linking to it, 37% of them with nofollow links, and 25% of its links in the article rather than headers or footers. 473 sites had over 100 links per linking site. More linking sites did not always mean a link worth more: sites with 10 to 99 were worth a median $2.99 a link.

mxverify read 195 directories' pages: 50% of 13,548 outbound links were followed, and 77 of 134 directories linked out mostly followed. A directory link is worth a median $56 to rankings; a forum or profile link is usually priced a tenth of an editorial one.
